CNN Presents: A Larry King Special – Harry Potter: The Final Chapter in July

Larry King sits down with the cast of Harry Potter leading up to the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. The one-hour special, airing July 10 at 8pm and 10pm (Nigerian time) on CNN International will feature interviews with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson,  Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, Helena Bonham Carter and Robbie Coltrane, as well as never before seen footage from the film days before its worldwide premiere. Additionally, James and Oliver Phelps, who play the Weasley twins, take viewers on a tour of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Orlando Resort and interact with fans on the eve of the final Harry Potter movie.

Radcliffe, calling the final Potter film a “hell of a movie,” tells King that he “wept like a child on that last day” of filming.  The three main stars, who have spent half of their lives playing these characters, open up to King and reflect on the end of the series of films.  “I was so young, it’s difficult to remember much of my life before this thing happened to me,” Watson says.  “I was still losing my baby teeth” while playing Hermione. Grint says after 10 years of his life playing Ron Weasley, leaving the character behind was “quite a big kind of shock.”

In what many predict will be the movie event of the summer, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 will mark the end the most successful film franchise in history.  The films are based on a series of seven best-selling novels, written by J.K. Rowling.  After 10 years and over six billion dollars in ticket sales, Larry King will take viewers on an exclusive tour behind the scenes and into the making of the final movie with the special effects team who brought the magical world to the big screen. Never-seen footage will give CNN viewers a new glimpse at the iconic characters and for the first time, fans will see an extended clip of the film that will be shown exclusively on CNN just days before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opens in theatres on July 15th.  Wendy Walker is the executive producer of CNN’s Larry King Specials. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, A Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

M-Net launches Africa Magic Swahili on July 1.

M-Net has announced the arrival of their new baby, Africa Magic Swahili, a gift for more than 124 million Swahili speakers across the continent.

M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi says the complete Swahili package will debut on DStv channel 127 on July 1, at 3pm to be precise.
General Manager of Multichoice Kenya Stephen Isaboke  and  M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi
“Kiswahili is one of the oldest and most beautiful languages in the world. It’s also one of the most widely spoken languages in the region,” she said, stressing that it was a by-product of an urgent request from subscribers in the region.

Africa Magic Swahili will be the fifth offering of more localised content for the region after Africa Magic, Africa Magic Plus, Africa Magic Hausa and Africa Magic Yoruba.

DStv Channel 127 will initially broadcast on six hour loops much like the M-Net Series channel, and content will range from movies, drama series, talks shows and music videos.

“Content is a big challenge,” says Wangeci Murage, program Manager for M-Net in East Africa, who acknowledges that most of content is currently being sourced from Tanzania.

She however stresses that since there is a platform, local producers and film makers should take advantage of the chances to come up with more content.

It should come as good news to film makers in Kenya who rarely have an outlet for their creations that would generate revenue.

Wangeci has called on any film maker with relevant content to drop it at the M-Net offices in Rahimtulla Towers in Upper Hill,Kenya.

Biola said that most of the contracts they sign with programmes on their pay-TV channel range between 12 and 18 months, and this has been a successful model across the continent.
Stephen Isaboke,Biola Alabi and Wangeci Murage, program Manager for M-Net in East Africa
She also took the chance to announce that they would be shooting another season of Changes in the near future.

The General Manager of Multichoice Kenya Stephen Isaboke said the channel would be available even on their cheapest bouquet – DSTv Access – making it within reach for anyone who can afford to pay the monthly subscription.

Anyone can enjoy the programmes on the channel though as the dramas and movies will have English subtitles.

Chris Brown,2Face Idibia and D'banj Shines at BET Awards 2011

Last year at the BET Awards, Chris Brown stomped and bawled his way through an emotional tribute to his idol, the late Michael Jackson. The performance earmarked a yearlong public plea for redemption that had plenty of highs and lows. On Sunday night, it was pretty clear that at least one audience had embraced the singer.

The 22-year-old was the uncontested man of the evening, collecting five trophies, including male R&B artist, video of the year and collaboration for “Look at Me Now” during the telecast, which aired live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Chris Brown
"All my fans are everything to me," Brown said while accepting the award for male R&B artist. "I know it's been a long road. I just appreciate every blessing that's been put in front of me."

Later, he delivered a dance-heavy medley of tracks from “F.A.M.E.,” his first No. 1 album, and performed alongside buzzy up-and-coming rapper Big Sean. He even chided his own lack of poise when it comes to public speaking, something the audience got a laugh out of, given his meltdown on "Good Morning America" in March.

Although Brown’s appearance made for the rather awkward question of seating arrangements in case Rihanna would make an appearance -- she didn’t, despite winning for female R&B artist -– their names did cross paths thanks to a major snafu.

D'banj Arrival
As a fan presented the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award, Brown's name was called as the winner (the show used tablet computers instead of traditional envelopes to reveal who had won), but then it was quickly changed to Rihanna.

“Well, this is awkward,” said Drake, who emerged from backstage to accept on behalf of the absent singer for their hit “What’s My Name,” amid gasps and muttering from the confused audience.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, host Kevin Hart bought out Brown to tell him he was actually the intended winner of the trophy, along with the FANdemonium Award. Talk about awkward -- especially as a chunk of the audience had already began filing out of the venue.

2face @ the press room
The BET Awards have always been less about onstage drama and more about what surprises the network could cook up, and there were a few highlights throughout the night, including Anita Baker performing with Mary J. Blige and a passionate, posthumous tribute to Teena Marie, Gill Scott-Heron, Nate Dogg and Clarance Clemons.
The BET stage, as Brown demonstrated, is the place to begin a much-needed comeback narrative.

Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland sent tongues wagging with a steamy performance of her No. 1 single “Motivation,” alongside crooner Trey Songz. After a handful of stalls for her serially delayed disc, "Here I Am," it was no surprise that all eyes were on her for the performance, especially as her last BET showing came at the tail end of a number from her more famous ex-bandmate BeyoncĂ©.

Not one to let her presence go unseen, BeyoncĂ© this year was beamed in from her Glastonbury festival debut, where she delivered a charging performance of the new single “End of Time.”

2face
With her new album, “4,” getting off to a slow start –- none of the singles have cracked the top 10 –- the closing slot was a much-needed promotional push.

Despite being a continent away, the singer managed to have the performance of the evening. In the Shrine, a section of the audience waved flags emblazoned with the letter "B," and a slew of dancers gyrated below the big screen of her performance. Though satellite performances are nothing new for awards shows, she was the first artist to perform on the network via satellite.

Other winners included Wiz Khalifia for new artist and Kanye West for male hip-hop artist. Nicki Minaj was all laughs when she won for female hip-hop artist, as expected.

"Wow, I can't believe I won. No, no. Not like that," Minaj said as the audience roared in laughter. "What I mean is I didn't expect to....When I say I can't believe I won, I mean I can't believe I get to share this with [Lil Wayne], who saw me rapping on the steps."

2face Arrival
Here’s a complete BET Awards 2011 Winners List:

Nigeria Alternative EnergyChanges Date for 2011 Expo.

ABUJA, NIGERIA -- Mathesis Consulting has announced today that, Nigeria Alternative Energy Expo  has changed the date of the 2011 Expo, to be held at the Yardua Conference Centre, Wuse, Abuja, Nigeria. The expo will now be held on October 17 - 19, 2011.

”There are a few reasons we decided to shift the date,” according to Emeka Offor, Business Development Director Mathesis Consulting, Organizers of the Nigeria Alternative Energy Expo 2011.  “Most importantly, due to transition to new government and changes of some cabinet members, we have decided to allowed some time to ensure smooth take off  in the new administration”.

‘’We also had tremendous support from the relevant Governments, which are willing to create enabling policy and regulatory environments, and expect to roll out the Renewable Energy projects in several locations in the Country, ’’ he stated. The new administration is keen on delivering power to Nigerians. Climate change will see agricultural production in Africa halve over the next few years as the continent falls victim to major environmental disruption. This will be aggravated by the estimation that the majority of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) will come from developing countries, including that of Africa, according to the ‘Energizing Development in a Changing Climate’ magazine by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The publication also estimates that the rising energy demand will come from developing countries where this will increase to 40% by 2030. As a result, GHG will increase from the existing 39% to 52% by 2030. Our lists of partners are tremendously increasing as Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership; African Renewable Energy Alliance; Energy commission of Nigeria; Ministry of Environment; and Ministry of Power are now partnering with us. Now is the time for Nigeria and the world to rely on renewable energy, join us and make this huge success.

Mathesis Consulting has announced its commitment to organizing an exposition to give an insight into the reformation roadmap the Nigerian Power sector is going through and the opportunity for Green Energy Solutions and promise to host a completely carbon neutral Expo.

One of the major challenges facing Nigeria (with a population of over 150 million) is energy generation and distribution. Since March 2005, with the establishment of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act by the National Assembly, the vision of the power sector reform has been to stimulate adequate levels of investment in the power sector, which the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) put at $10 billion per annum, and improve the quality of management. The Federal Government has stressed the need to return to the task of pursuing the fundamental changes to the ownership, control and regulation of the sector.  In August 2010, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria expressed his commitment to building a solid energy sector: “Our commitment is to bring an end to our nation's stunted growth and usher in the fresh air of prosperity by pursuing a new era of sector-wide reform which is driven by improved service delivery to every class of customers in the Nigerian electricity sector”.

Amongst other numerous benefits, NAEE 2011 will provide the participants and exhibitors with the opportunity of networking with more than 200 senior level energy sector experts and decision-makers; visiting over 100 leading energy suppliers, from Europe, Asia and the US -  showcasing the latest technologies, equipment and services; establishing a remarkable presence in the Nigerian market; and sourcing of local business agents and partners.

eLDee & Rita Dominic to host the 2011 Headies.

Award winning actress Rita Dominic and celebrated artiste eLDee will host the 2011 edition of the Headies. In its continuing commitment to the promotion and development of urbane music Smooth Promotions, producers of the Headies awards announced on Monday that the two reputable performers have signed on to anchor this year’s show.

In a news release early this week, executive producer Ayo Animashaun says eLDee and Rita Dominic – The veteran musician and respected actress are the ‘‘perfect’’ choice to host this year’s show.

Ayo Animashaun who is the CEO of Smooth promotions said in a statement released on Monday ‘‘I can exclusively tell you Rita Dominic and Eldee have signed on to host the Headies awards. We are energized by our choice of hosts and we are confident with both of them anchoring the show our audience will have fantastic moments and an amazing show. Be assured this duo brings the perfect mix of elegance and sophistication that will set the tone for an amazing show. Preparations are in top gear and we are once again presenting you with the biggest faces that you know to host the 6th edition of the Headies awards and it will be amazing’’ said Ayo Animashaun who founded the awards in 2006.

According to organizers, Eldee was a natural selection as host given his pedigree has a long standing successful music artiste and producer, while his co-host for the big night Rita Dominic is one of Nigeria’s biggest stars with a huge followership on the big and small screen.
Eldee, born Olanrewaju Dabiri is widely known by the moniker eLDee and is one of the earliest pioneers of hip hop music in Nigeria. He is a well respected artiste and music producer who released several chart topping songs and albums to much critical acclaim.

Rita Dominic exemplifies the perfect example of how a talented young girl can rise to become a household name in Nollywood with a long line of blockbuster movies to her credit. She starred in her first movie in 1998 and has since emerged as one of Nollywood’s biggest exports.

Hailed for one-of-a-kind moments, elegant fashion displays, and five star musical performances, the Headies (also refered to as Hip Hop World Awards) has produced some of the most unforgettable moments in the history of award shows in Nigeria. The annual music event is ranked among the top award shows in Africa.
The selection of the siren and the celebrated musician as masters of ceremonies for the high-profile event can best be described as a ‘‘plus’’ for this year’s edition which organizers have promised would be a wonderful experience for entertainment enthusiasts in Nigeria.
It’s the second time a movie personality will be host after fellow Nollywood actress Dakore co-hosted alongside Basketmouth in 2008.

Eldee and Rita Dominic follow in the footsteps of names such as Darey in 2006, D’banj and Tana who served as hosts in 2007, Dakore and Basketmouth in 2008, Banky W and Kemi Adetiba in 2009 all of whom have hosted the awards show in the past years.

The Headies (also known as Hip Hop World Awards) was created by Ayo Animashaun in 2006 as a platform to recognize and celebrate musical talents with the best, offering every calendar year with a total of twenty-two 21 carat gold award plaques to reward deserving artistes amid over 8,000 entries received every year.

M-Net’s BIG BROTHER AMPLIFIED: A MASSIVE SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT!

It was a definitely a night to remember when Big Brother Amplified turned up the volume last night (Sunday June 12 at 6pm on DStv Channel 198) with the biggest announcement in the show’s history!

To huge applause from the studio audience, and in news that is sure to cause great excitement, series presenter IK revealed during the live eviction show, that this season there will be not one, but TWO winners - and each will take home a whopping USD200 000 cash prize. With the series almost at the halfway point, the surprise announcement is the latest twist in the highly popular reality series which is set to end with a spectacular two hour finale on July 31. It’s the first time ever that Big Brother Africa series will award two winners, bringing the total prize money to an incredible USD 400 000 though the housemates themselves will only find out about the double prize during the final show!

With Malawian stars Tigris and Maskal lifting the roof off of the Big Brother Amplified studio with amazing musical performances, the night also saw two housemates leave the Heads house…

With 7 Housemates nominated for eviction, there was a lot of tension in the Heads House this week. When IK asked Head of House Lomwe to reveal and explain his ‘save and replace’ decision to the Housemates, he told them it was “nothing personal”. “The person I decided to save represents the same cause as I do, that’s obviously Felicia,” he said. “The person I decided to replace her with – again nothing personal – has a strong background and foundations. If they leave the House, they will have a bright future. At the same time, that person is strong and I believe they won’t be evicted – sorry, Vimbai,” he revealed.

IK then took viewers into the House and told the Housemates that when he called out their names, they should stand. He named Millicent, Weza and Zeus. After a dramatic pause, he told Millicent and Zeus that they had been saved, calling Weza to the stage. Once she emerged, he asked her about her favourite memory in the House. As she started to answer, Big Brother delivered a message to IK – that Weza was to leave the stage immediately. The bewildered Angolan made her way off stage and before long, found herself entering the Tails House and being mobbed by a new set of excited Housemates.

It wasn’t over for the Heads Housemates – IK took viewers back into the House and asked Vina and Confidence to stand. “Vina, you’re safe,” said IK.

“Yay!” exclaimed Confidence. “I’m walking out! I’m free – I’m free of you people!” said the Ghanaian. Unfortunately for Confidence, she will miss out the cash prizes as she was evicted after gaining the fewest votes from Africa during the week.

As Confidence joined IK on stage, he confirmed that she had been evicted. “What was your favourite moment?” he asked her. “Well every moment was my favourite, I’m so grateful I’ve been brought to this place and taught the lessons of life and I’m going to go home a changed person,” she said.

When IK asked about her least favourite person in the house, Confidence said “Put it this way - they’re behind me. I’m moving forward!” IK quizzed her about what she’d be taking away from the experience. “Big Brother!” she said jokingly, before saying: “I have so much in my life and feel I’m so blessed to be here, of all the Ghanaians, I’m the girl who’s been picked to be here. I feel honoured and privileged and for me this is fun. Come on Africa - thank you so much!” Her parting shot came when IK asked her for a quick prediction on who would win Big Brother Amplified. “None of those people in that House [Heads]. There are nicer people in the other house. Those people are pretenders, please!”

As Confidence left the stage to head back home, IK still had time to scare Hanni and Vimbai when he crossed back into the House – but revealed that they had been saved.

Earlier in the show, viewers got a chance to see how Ernest and Bhoke had been coping after their eviction last week. Ernest explained his ‘intelligent attack’ on Luclay and talked about Bhoke’s ‘beautiful energy’. He looked forward to visiting Botswana to meet up with Zeus and Miss P and also hanging out at Confidence’s club in Ghana. He said he felt he had represented his country and its diversity well.

Bhoke said that being part of Big Brother Amplified was an “awesome experience” that she would carry with her for the rest of her life. She saw Confidence as a big sister in the other House, and had bonded with Kim in the Tails House as they both recognized something of themselves, in each other. She revealed that her high point was the first task win – having previously lost two tasks. Speaking about tension in the House, she felt that there had been many disagreements because nobody wanted to be seen as a weak person. “It’s been a learning experience,” she said. “I learned a lot about myself and I’m strong and confident in my own skin”.

Four viewers picked up fantastic prizes for voting and interacting with Big Brother during the past week: Ijeoma Sophia Nwogbo (Nigeria) won a DStv HD PVR, Ntsikiseng Motaung (South Africa) picked up a Samsung Laptop, Susan Kotobridge (Ghana) won a Samsung Smartphone and Jacob Asante (Ghana) won a Samsung Galaxy S.

Big Brother Amplified is headline sponsored by Coca-Cola. Fans can catch all the latest news, video – and all-important voting information – at www.mnetafrica.com/bigbrother. Tweet Big Brother @BigBroAfrica, send SMS messages to the on-screen strap, visit the Big Brother Africa Facebook Group to get the low-down on the continent’s favourite reality show and get updated news and two video streams – and houses - by pressing the “OK” button on your DStv remote when on DStv Channel 198.
