eLDee & Rita Dominic to host the 2011 Headies.

Award winning actress Rita Dominic and celebrated artiste eLDee will host the 2011 edition of the Headies. In its continuing commitment to the promotion and development of urbane music Smooth Promotions, producers of the Headies awards announced on Monday that the two reputable performers have signed on to anchor this year’s show.

In a news release early this week, executive producer Ayo Animashaun says eLDee and Rita Dominic – The veteran musician and respected actress are the ‘‘perfect’’ choice to host this year’s show.

Ayo Animashaun who is the CEO of Smooth promotions said in a statement released on Monday ‘‘I can exclusively tell you Rita Dominic and Eldee have signed on to host the Headies awards. We are energized by our choice of hosts and we are confident with both of them anchoring the show our audience will have fantastic moments and an amazing show. Be assured this duo brings the perfect mix of elegance and sophistication that will set the tone for an amazing show. Preparations are in top gear and we are once again presenting you with the biggest faces that you know to host the 6th edition of the Headies awards and it will be amazing’’ said Ayo Animashaun who founded the awards in 2006.

According to organizers, Eldee was a natural selection as host given his pedigree has a long standing successful music artiste and producer, while his co-host for the big night Rita Dominic is one of Nigeria’s biggest stars with a huge followership on the big and small screen.
Eldee, born Olanrewaju Dabiri is widely known by the moniker eLDee and is one of the earliest pioneers of hip hop music in Nigeria. He is a well respected artiste and music producer who released several chart topping songs and albums to much critical acclaim.

Rita Dominic exemplifies the perfect example of how a talented young girl can rise to become a household name in Nollywood with a long line of blockbuster movies to her credit. She starred in her first movie in 1998 and has since emerged as one of Nollywood’s biggest exports.

Hailed for one-of-a-kind moments, elegant fashion displays, and five star musical performances, the Headies (also refered to as Hip Hop World Awards) has produced some of the most unforgettable moments in the history of award shows in Nigeria. The annual music event is ranked among the top award shows in Africa.
The selection of the siren and the celebrated musician as masters of ceremonies for the high-profile event can best be described as a ‘‘plus’’ for this year’s edition which organizers have promised would be a wonderful experience for entertainment enthusiasts in Nigeria.
It’s the second time a movie personality will be host after fellow Nollywood actress Dakore co-hosted alongside Basketmouth in 2008.

Eldee and Rita Dominic follow in the footsteps of names such as Darey in 2006, D’banj and Tana who served as hosts in 2007, Dakore and Basketmouth in 2008, Banky W and Kemi Adetiba in 2009 all of whom have hosted the awards show in the past years.

The Headies (also known as Hip Hop World Awards) was created by Ayo Animashaun in 2006 as a platform to recognize and celebrate musical talents with the best, offering every calendar year with a total of twenty-two 21 carat gold award plaques to reward deserving artistes amid over 8,000 entries received every year.

HIP HOP WORLD AWARDS RE-BRANDS,MOVES OUT OF LAGOS AND TO HOLD IN JULY.

Smooth Promotions, the organizers of Nigeria’s biggest music honours event – Hip Hop World Awards have announced, in a release issued early Tuesday April 19 that the 2011 edition of the Awards will not hold in Lagos.

The Chief Executive Officer and founder, Ayo Animashaun, also stated the organizing committee’s decision to modify the name of the awards to THE HEADIES.

These and more, were contained in an exclusive release personally signed by Mr. Animashaun.

“We’re moving out of Lagos again”

“This will be the second time we’re leaving Lagos. We had the show in Abuja in 2009 and Abuja showed us love. Since then, there’s been clamor from different regions for us to come stage the awards in their state. And as a truly and proudly national brand, we’re very open to moving the show all over Nigeria. So when the opportunity came again, we happily grabbed it!”.He declined disclosing the exact date for the event, but says it will be revealed soonest. However, he revealed to the general public that in July a phenomenal awards event will be held in an extravagant venue in Calabar, Cross River State.

“Once we’re able to confirm all the details, we’ll announce a date” Ayo Animashaun says.

Now, in its sixth year, THE HEADIES (Hip Hop World Awards) is the most remarkable and most credible Nigerian music awards show rewarding excellence, creativity, popularity and musical ingenuity within the urban contemporary music scene.

Speaking on the choice of the name THE HEADIES, Ayo Animashaun says “It was just a matter of time. Everyone in-house has been calling the awards that name forever; because that’s what we christened our plaque. I think the name is more hip and trendy, and it helps us place proper focus on the prize, which is the plaque; The Headie – the prize to die for”.

The awards’ secretariat is partnering with state governments, an airline company, a team of corporate sponsors, as well as several entertainment companies, to make this year’s show “the biggest and the best ever”.

The Headies has been rescheduled from its usual date in May to July, 2011.According to Ayo, this year’s awards ceremony has been postponed taking into account the ongoing national elections. The organizers have realised that the election exercise rank as the country’s foremost priority and as such must be given utmost attention by every citizen.

“The election process is pivotal to the entire well being and sustenance of the Nigerian society and we at Smooth Promotions and The Headies, recognize this as priority and have in our patriotic nature rescheduled the annual music awards event from its usual date in May to the end of June 2011.”
