Yaw hosts 'Naija Reality' TV show
Wazobia FM, Steve Onu (a.k.a. Yaw) has been selected as host of a new reality TV show conceptualised by the pay TV network, HiTV.
The show is entitled, Naija Reality TV show. It is aimed at portraying the evolution of a patriotic, responsible, productive, and unprejudiced Nigerian. Naija Reality TV, organisers inform, is also to “celebrate the richness in the diversity and the complexity of the Nigerian society.” To ensure that the country’s diversity is well represented, Yaw and other members of the project, went in search of young, creative and talented Nigerians, between the ages of 18 and 35 the six zones of the country. Cities they held auditions comprised: Bauchi, Kaduna, Abuja, Enugu with final audition in Lagos. Eighteen housemates were selected.
Asked why he accepted to host the show, the popular broadcaster responded: “HiTV is 100 per cent Nigerian., I am a Nigerian and I am proud of my country. Aside that, the concept is unique and different from other reality shows, I am happy to be associated with Naija, there is no better platform to showcase such an indigenous programme as this. The need to identify with that Nigerian who is proud of his fatherland and has an undying innate passion for his country, in all, make me give thumbs up for HiTV.”
The broadcaster and actor who is known within the Lagos celebrity circles for his multiple artistic talent and prowess in anchoring on-air programmes in pure Nigerian pidgin English also gave kudos to his employers and the management of his radio station for their support by giving him the opportunity to be part of the project.
Among the vital conditions of the contest is that “each participant would be an indigene of their various communities, who have limited interest to Western lifestyle. They are very passionate about their culture and confidently express their views on topical issues. These individuals (all 18 contestants) would live together in one house for eight weeks. The winner will go home with a brand new car and N5 million.”
