Football fans who can’t wait the 20-plus days until the World Cup can relax. SuperSport has lined up nine international friendlies featuring some of the world’s best teams, among them England, Holland and Spain
The matches come thick and fast, starting with Austria against Croatia and concluding with Spain hosting South Korea.
SuperSport has ramped up its broadcast plans with the addition of former Ireland manager Eoin Hand and former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier to its already stellar experts’ panel that includes John Barnes, Edgar Davids and a host of others.
The handover of SuperSport’s hi-tech HD studio has also just taken place. It is the biggest purpose-built studio in the history of SuperSport and boasts state-of-the-art design and lighting.
With every one of the 64 matches to be broadcast on HD across sub-Saharan Africa, the World Cup is expected to set new standards in picture clarity and quality.
According to SuperSport head of channels Tex Teixeira, “Our mission is to ensure DStv subscribers have the best World Cup experience possible - SuperSport HD uses revolutionary technology which dramatically improves the television picture quality.
“The difference between HD and standard television is essentially the detail and clarity of the picture - colours are more vivid and the image is incredibly sharp.
We will be the only pay-TV service in Africa whose subscribers can see the Fifa 2010 World Cup in High Definition.”
SuperSport’s World Cup project team, including staffers from Kenya and Nigeria, are spending the week in workshops aimed at fine-tuning SuperSport’s World Cup presentation.
Apart from regular programming, supersport.com will stream all 64 World Cup matches live.
