Al Jazeera Correspondent is a new series that showcases the network's unique brand of journalism.

The passion, experience and insight of Al Jazeera's correspondents from around the world are featured in this
very special series of full length documentaries.

Al Jazeera's journalists give us personal accounts of events and stories they have experienced or reported on. Stories for which they have a great passion or which have marked their lives and careers. From the most remote corners of Tibet's mountains to the deepest mines of Chile's deserts our correspondents cross the globe as they take us on their journeys of discovery that reveal as much about the future as it does about the past.

Al Jazeera wins 'News Channel of the Year' at the Freesat Awards.

Al Jazeera (HiTV 005 / DStv 406 / TopTV 401) has been named the News Channel of the Year at the annual Freesat Awards held in London, Britain for a third time, beating rivals BBC World News, CNBC and France 24, and also winning in the category for ''News event coverage of the year'' for the channel's coverage of the uprisings across the Middle East dubbed ''the Arab Awakening''.

Al Jazeera's independence and impartiality were highlighted by the judges as key reasons for the Middle Eastern 24 hour news network's win in both categories. ''The panel agreed that the fearless and determined journalism demonstrated by reporters, including Sherine Tadros and Ayman Mohyeldin, in their coverage of the Arab Awakening were key factors in their commendation of the channel,'' says Al Jazeera in a press statement.

''We're delighted that our teams of journalists are receiving the recognition they deserve for their efforts,'' says Al Anstey, Al Jazeera English's managing director. ''Our coverage of the Arab Awakening was, and still is, a global news story of huge importance to us and we will continue to broadcast the stories that matter directly from the people on the ground.''

Al Jazeera starting a new social media TV show called The Stream from May.

Al Jazeera (HiTV 5 /DStv 406 / MyTV 14) says The Stream will launch next Monday 2 May at 8:30pm (Nigerian time) on the channel.

''Al Jazeera is pleased to announce the launch of The Stream, a social media show. The daily program is the first of its kind, acting as an aggregator of online sources and discussions, seeking out unheard voices and new perspectives from people around the world and presenting untold angles related to the most compelling stories of the day,'' says the channel in a press release.

''The Stream draws on the enormous growth of the social networks that are transforming today's news and current affairs agendas and that have played a key communication role in the recent revolutions in emerging democracies. The Stream will begin broadcasting on Al Jazeera in May.''

Derrick Ashong will be the presenter of The Stream which will be done from Washington D.C. ''The Stream is a truly unique concept which will tap into the increasing power of social media as a vital news source,'' says Paul Eedle, director of programming for Al Jazeera. ''The growth of social networks and their associated tools are transforming global news agendas. The Stream will allow Al Jazeera to bridge the divide between new and traditional media in a way that engages a new generation of news consumers.''
